Impact raises the bar on challenge for Shelter Housing

January 4, 2022

Impact Capital Groups “Step up to 2021” challenge for Shelter Housing surpasses fundraising and activity targets in under a week. As a result, the group have decided to raise its' target to £2,500 in donations, and running or walking a collective distance of 1,000km by the end of February.

Shelter was founded in 1966 as an organisation dedicated to support millions of people each year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through their advice, support, and legal services. The charity campaigns to tackle the root causes of Britain’s Housing Crisis with the aim of providing long term solutions.

Shelter Housing kick started the challenge last week by presenting to the participants. The presentation revealed shocking statistics bringing to light the scale of the current Housing Crisis. It was highlighted that in London alone, 71 households become homeless every day. Over 62,670 households currently live-in temporary accommodation, whilst 4,266 have no choice but to sleep on the streets on an average night. It was also made apparent that throughout the pandemic, Shelter has seen a significant increase in cases, receiving 25,000 calls through its helpline in November 2019 alone.

Exposing the mass issue, the impact team were even more determined to meet set targets. Impact athletes have braved the elements and spread the word. In the first week of the challenge, the team have collectively surpassed both targets, having run/walked over 349km and more importantly, raised £1,873.

The decision to raise the bar comes as a result of our team effort, our aspiration to make a positive impact on our society, by raising as much as we can in support of Shelter and the work that they do.
