It’s no secret that the Housing Crisis in the UK has been gradually worsening since the 1970’s, the true extent of which has been exposed by the pandemic, when thousands of people found themselves in a hopeless situation, deprived of a safe place to stay and many without a home.
Shelter, founded in 1966, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping millions of people devastated by this great emergency, the housing crisis.
Throughout the first wave of the pandemic in 2020, the foundation saw a huge increase in cases, receiving 25,000 helpline calls in an average month.
Reports by Shelter also show that 274,000 people are homeless at this moment in time, with thousands more at risk of losing their home in England alone.
Driven by ESG values, our Group’s ambition is to help tackle some of the great emergencies of our time. Addressing the Housing Crisis is one of our key targets.
Last year we set out on a mission to raise awareness with ‘Step up to 2021’, a company-wide fundraising challenge in aid of Shelter. We raised £5k, a sum which enabled Shelter to provide support for the most vulnerable in our society (read more here).
This year, we're doing it again.
The ‘Run with Impact 2022’ challenge kick started on the 1st February. Each one of our impact athletes (there’s 20 in total!) must raise funds to help collect a minimum of £1500 in total donations.
They will also collectively run a distance of 1,500km, recording individual performance through the STRAVA app- in real time. (We will be sharing their progress on social media using the #myimpact hashtag, so keep a lookout!)
In the grand scheme of things, a single challenge isn’t going to fix the Housing Crisis issue and we know it. But it will raise awareness and it will contribute to much needed change. All this can only happen if we ALL play our part...
So help support the cause by donating to Shelter HERE and spread the word by sharing our story.
